He pointed out that the digital and technical revolution in the vehicle sector, such as self-driving and artificial intelligence, has the ability to fully transform the mobility system: “we in ESMA realize that the real potential of these technologies cannot be fully realized until the legislative and technical basis is prepared. H.E. Abdulla Abdulqader Al Maeeni, Director General, said: "The acquisition of practical experience from these new systems will allow our government to keep abreast of these technological developments. We work closely with manufacturers and regulators around the world, closely follow the developments in this sector, and consistently seek to develop a regulatory framework and standards consistent with global legislation.

He continued: "The transformation of the country's mobility sector and the rapid adoption of green, smart and self-driving transport systems and mechanisms have been part of the agendas and vision of government agencies that have launched a series of initiatives and plans to realize the vision of making the UAE a global capital for the future, including Abu Dhabi Transportation Mobility Management Strategy, the Surface Transport Master Plan - Abu Dhabi, and the Dubai Autonomous Transportation Strategy.”
