• Al Ketbi: “The positive results achieved support the digital transformation process in Abu Dhabi and cement the Emirate’s position as a hub for digital innovation, both regionally and globally” 

Dubai, UAE: The Abu Dhabi Government has concluded its strong and successful participation in GITEX Technology Week 2020 with positive results and remarkable achievements, with the pavilion featuring the participation of 24 government entities and academic institutions, in addition to a group of the world's major technology giants.

Over the course of the event, the Abu Dhabi Government pavilion witnessed the signing of 12 agreements and Memoranda of Understanding, as the participating entities showcased 88 initiatives and innovative digital projects that aim to create a unique experience for visitors by introducing a unified platform that features all government entities. The Government ensured full compliance with COVID-19 precautionary measures, including social distancing and the compulsory wearing of face masks, in order to preserve the security, safety, and health of both visitors and exhibitors.

The Abu Dhabi Government’s participation comes under the supervision of the Higher Committee of Digital Government as part of its efforts to implement a cohesive framework across the Abu Dhabi Government and make a fundamental change in the concept of government services, moving towards a digital future.

In line with efforts to promote strategic partnerships and develop new opportunities for meaningful cooperation between the public and private sectors, the Abu Dhabi Government pavilion hosted a series of events during the exhibition witnessing the launch of various digital initiatives and the signing of several agreements and Memoranda of Understanding, including the Department of Education and Knowledge, ADEK, signing a number of agreements with Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (du), Microsoft, Huawei, Intel and Oracle.

Additionally, the Department of Energy signed an agreement with Dell to enhance cooperation in the field of information technology and security and to reach advanced levels that support the Department’s efforts to develop the energy sector in the Emirate.

The Abu Dhabi Government pavilion provided a platform for showcasing the digital transformation achievements in Abu Dhabi and the readiness of the Emirate’s digital infrastructure, digital capabilities and technical resources, with the aim of enhancing customer confidence, whether citizens, residents, investors or visitors. 

His Excellency Ali Rashid Al Ketbi, Chairman of the Department of Government Support – Abu Dhabi, expressed his delight at the successful participation of the Abu Dhabi Government at GITEX Technology Week 2020, noting that the number of visitors to the government pavilion reached over 10,000. H.E. Al Ketbi also praised the positive results achieved in this global technology show, declaring that the results support the digital transformation process in Abu Dhabi and cement the Emirate’s position as a hub for digital innovation, both regionally and globally.

Al Ketbi expressed his thanks and appreciation to government entities, academic institutions and strategic partners for their participation in the Abu Dhabi Government Pavilion. He also praised the cooperation and integration between government entities that successfully highlighted the digital transformation achievements of the Abu Dhabi Government.

His Excellency Fahed Salem Alkayyoomi, Undersecretary of the Department of Government Support – Abu Dhabi, emphasized the importance of the results achieved during GITEX Technology Week 2020, saying that they are in line with efforts to provide an integrated, innovative and creative digital government that serves all members of society in Abu Dhabi, contributes to achieving leadership in government digital services, and enhances the value of joint government projects.

Alkayyoomi added: “Government entities, academic institutions and strategic partners took part in the Abu Dhabi government pavilion with the common objective of drafting the digital future of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, as well as enabling, supporting and delivering a digital government that is proactive, personalized, collaborative and secure. 

His Excellency Mohamed Abdelhameed Al Askar, Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Digital Authority, said that the Abu Dhabi Government’s participation in GITEX Technology Week 2020 focused on four main pillars; Government Services, Government Solutions, Data and Artificial Intelligence, and Ecosystem Enablement, with the aim of supporting the digital agenda of the Abu Dhabi Government and highlighting government entities’ roles in developing fast and effective digital government solutions that enhance the efficiency of government performance and improve the customer experience.

On the side-lines of the event, a new service that enables people of determination to digitally apply for parking permits was launched. This comes as part of joint efforts between the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, the Abu Dhabi Integrated Transport Center, the Abu Dhabi Police and the Abu Dhabi Digital Authority, to operationalize the National Policy to Empower People of Determination and to implement the UAE Universal Design Code in the transportation field. It is also part of the successful efforts of government entities and institutions in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to provide services for people of determination and developing the community.

The General Administration of Abu Dhabi Customs, in cooperation with the Federal Customs Authority and the Department of Economic Development, ADDED, has launched a campaign to expand the scope of its Economic Operator Programme and increase the number of companies benefitting from the programme’s customs advantages, including reduced clearance times, pre-completion procedures that lead to lower financial costs, and time-saving for companies and the business community. In addition, the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre and the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority have launched their new websites.

The Department of Economic Development, Department of Education and Knowledge, Abu Dhabi School of Government, Department of Municipalities and Transport, Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority and Abu Dhabi Global Market have all organised awareness workshops on a group of systems and initiatives related to their areas of interest.

The Department of Government Support – Abu Dhabi, DGS, represented by the Abu Dhabi Digital Authority, ADDA, also signed partnership agreements with Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Palo Alto Networks, Dell Technologies, and F5, all aimed at maximizing the value of services provided by companies to government entities in Abu Dhabi, accelerating digital transformation in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and enhancing coordination between government entities and strategic partners, thereby promoting innovation in the government services sector.

In addition, ADDA signed agreements with the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence and Rabdan Academy with the aim of enhancing cooperation in the fields of research, development and training, and to develop joint projects in the fields of artificial intelligence, geographic information systems and other related fields.

During its participation in GITEX Technology Week, the Human Resources Authority completed the development of an analytical model on human resources management in the Abu Dhabi Government, in cooperation with ADDA. The analytical model aims to provide better insights on the mechanisms required for implementing policies on unplanned absences, thus ensuring smooth business continuity, boosting business development and opportunities, and developing more efficient employment schemes that safeguard both business and individual growth.

In addition, the Abu Dhabi Police completed development of its model for traffic safety and road accident reduction and launched the ‘VAST’ system for automated detection of seat belt and mobile phone violations, which will come into effect for all road users on 1st January, 2021. The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi has cooperated with ADDA to conduct two use cases for data analysis: ‘Cardiovascular Disease Risk Calculator’ and the ‘Diabetes Risk Factor and Assessment Tool’.

The 24 participating Abu Dhabi Government entities at the pavilion included the Department of Government Support – Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Police, Department of Energy, Department of Economic Development, Department of Municipalities and Transport, Department of Education and Knowledge, Department of Health, Department of Culture and Tourism, Judicial Department, Abu Dhabi Digital Authority, Abu Dhabi Housing Authority, Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, Abu Dhabi Social Support Authority, Human Resources Authority, Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority, Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development, Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council, Social Care and Minors Affairs Foundation, Abu Dhabi School of Government, Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination, Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi Public Health Center, Abu Dhabi Customs, and Abu Dhabi Global Market.

They were joined by several strategic partners from the world's major technology giants, including Microsoft, IBM, Dell and Intel, who were participating at GITEX Technology Week 2020 under the umbrella of the Abu Dhabi Government.
