HAMBURG- Iranian state-owned animal feed importer SLAL is believed to have purchased only around 40,000 tonnes of animal feed barley in an international tender for up to 400,000 tonnes which closed last week, European traders said on Monday.

SLAL is again tendering for 60,000 tonnes of barley with offers expected to be submitted on Tuesday.

"I think the 400,000 tonne tender was too much of a large volume in view of the continued payment difficulties with sanctions on Iran still disrupting normal banking channels," one European trader said.

"But purchases of smaller volumes are possible and it looks like they will try for another small deal this week."

This week’s tender seeks rapid shipment in March/April with re-sales of afloat supplies already loaded on ships acceptable, they said.

The 40,000 tonnes of barley just purchased was also sought for quick shipment between March 10 and April 10. Prices were unavailable.
