UAE moves ahead with the right labour laws

Ensuring workers' rights and welfare are of paramount importance in UAE

A country that considers its workers as partners in growth is on the path to sustainable progress.
For the UAE, ensuring workers' rights and their welfare are of paramount importance. Making the nation one of the safest and happiest in the world is the government's aim, and the country is on an interminable mission to realise the goal.
A Certificate of Good Conduct is now mandatory for a new employee, and this is a step in the right direction.
The rationale behind the decision is to create a safer society by preventing criminals and people with doubtful character from entering the country.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has tasked itself with the protection of the UAE work force of over 200 nationalities.
And a 24-hour toll free number enables every worker to lodge a complaint. The Domestic Labour Law which came into effect last year brought this section under the purview of the ministry and special laws are in place for their benefit.

UAE labour laws place tremendous responsibility on employers. There is a constant effort to improve transparency of job terms and employment contracts and other aspects like recruitment, pay, housing and health.

The mid-day break rule which forbids labourers from working outdoors during the afternoons for about four summer months has been a very successful initiative.

The fact that the nation does not just formulate laws, but also takes steps to familiarise the recipients through awareness campaigns and ensures strict compliance is a notable point.


By ratifying nine conventions of the International Labour Organisation related to the rights of workers, the UAE has proved that it is among the best when it comes to not just protection and safety of its work force.

A friendly work environment that encourages communication without barriers helps forge a better work and social atmosphere.

When it comes to the welfare of its people, the country goes the extra mile to make necessary amendments or formulate new laws, making its people one of the happiest in the world.
