Cairo – Egypt has so far converted about 363,000 cars to operate on natural gas, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek El-Molla revealed.
As of June 2021, the number of natural gas fuelling stations reached 333, while the number of vehicle natural gas conversion centres amounted to 101, El-Molla added in statement on Thursday.
Th ministry works on encouraging the shift to using compressed natural gas (CNG) as a car fuel and plans to increase the number of fuelling stations to 1,000, he pointed out.
This came during a meeting between El-Molla and Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to follow up on the progress of projects implemented by the ministry.
On a side note, El-Molla revealed that the number of households with access to natural gas reached 12.2 million with about 51.8 million people.
About 49% of this figure has been achieved in the last seven years, he added.
The ministry also expects to reach its objective of delivering natural gas to 1.2 million residential units at the end of fiscal year (FY) 2020/2021.
