A clothing company has been ordered to pay BD8,000 after sacking one of its employees after seven years.

The Indian, aged 40, who worked in the company since 2013, was let go after being accused of embezzlement.

However, lawyer Fatima Bumajeed, representing the employee, claimed that her client was wrongly accused and was not given his indemnity.

The High Labour Court then ordered the company to pay BD8,000 in compensation to the defendant – including a monthly salary of BD350 which was not paid for 12 months.

“The employee was given a paper to sign as if he had received his salary and indemnity,” read the court ruling.

“However, his lawyer requested an expert to examine the signature which he ruled was forged.

“Therefore, the court ordered the clothing company to pay BD8,000 to the employee for firing him without a legitimate reason.”
