Dubai, UAE: HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has toured the activities of DEWA’s 9th annual Internal Health & Safety Week. DEWA organises the week to promote a culture of health and safety amongst its stakeholders, especially employees and customers, and highlight the latest developments in health and safety. This is part of DEWA’s strategy to improve health and safety standards in all its projects, activities, and operations, and its commitment to update staff about the latest Health and Safety systems.

“DEWA is keen on organising this event every year to elevate the government work environment in line with the vision of the wise leadership. We seek to review our accomplishments, and share the latest developments in occupational health and safety. This is part of our strategy to continuously improve our health and safety procedures and standards, and our commitment to update our stakeholders with the latest health and safety practices and systems. This event also helps to promote our Integrated Management System (IMS) policy, which supports health, safety and sustainability. At DEWA, we remain fully committed to providing an inspiring environment that guarantees the health and safety of our employees, customers and all stakeholders,” said Al Tayer.

“In 2018, DEWA has been awarded the Sword of Honour for Health and Safety for the 11th time. The British Safety Council declared that we are the only organisation worldwide to win both the Globe of Honour Award for the environment and the Sword of Honour for health and safety, for seven consecutive years, and to be the first international organisation to win the two prestigious awards at the same time. DEWA also won the Best Business Awards in the health and safety category, which is one of the most prestigious awards in the UK. DEWA has renewed the Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series Certification, and was certified by the British Safety Council as a certified training centre. DEWA is the first government organisation in Dubai to give those who are trained by our internal training team a certificate in occupational health and safety from the British Safety Council,” added Al Tayer.

“We have a vision to become a sustainable innovative leading utility. As such we intend to pioneer the best global practices and standards, including those in quality, health, safety and environment. These achievements confirm the effectiveness and success of the integrated management systems that DEWA adopts to promote a culture of health, safety, and the environment across all our departments and operations,” concluded Al Tayer.

Health and Safety Week concludes in DEWA’s branches on Thursday, 13 December 2018. It features various programmes, awareness lectures, and workshops on occupational health and safety, in addition to medical consultation sessions, and comprehensive health and medical scanning, including blood pressure and diabetes examinations, etc.
