Cairo-based design and engineering company Engineering Consulting Bureau (ECB) is aiming to grow its portfolio of projects handled in the domestic market by 30 percent by 2022, the company’s Founder and Chairman Mohamed Abd El-Ghany told Zawya Projects.

He said the company is currently providing design, engineering, project management and construction supervision services to 192 billion Egyptian pounds ($12 billion) worth of projects across the country.

“We are aiming to grow the same to 250 billion pounds ($16 billion) by mid-2022,” he said during an interview on Tuesday.

Abd El-Ghany pointed out that ECB’s active projects portfolio in the New Administrative Capital (NAC) mega development itself stands at 16 billion pounds ($1.01 billion). These include El Bosco and Vinci projects from Misr Italia Properties; Capital Heights 1 and 2 from Safwa Urban Development (SUD) and Armonia from Land Developers.

Projects outside the NAC include Porto El Mostakbal in Mostakbal City and a housing project from Edge Stone Company.

“We recently signed a contract to supervise the completion Phase 1 of The Estates, which is being developed by SODIC over an area of 150 acres on the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road,” he said.

Projects in the public sector

While private sector projects represent 80 percent of the portfolio, the company is providing to the services to the government, and related entities.

This includes construction supervision services for the 300-bed Suez Central Hospital, which is being developed at an investment of 3 billion pounds ($191 million).

“Sixty percent of the construction has been completed. The hospital is on track for completion by early 2022,” he said.

ECB is also supervising the construction of the 700-million-pound ($44.5 million) Telecom Egypt sports club in Maadi. Spread over an area of 25 acres, the project, which includes a stadium and recreation facilities, is scheduled to be delivered at the end of 2021.

Modern techniques

Abd El-Ghany said the company is using Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Value Engineering (VE) techniques during the design phase.

“BIM helps in coordinating drawings and reducing implementation errors while VE helps in reducing costs without compromising on design intent, functionality and quality of the project,” he explained.

The company also provides sustainability consultancy services for projects seeking LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) green building certification.

Outside Egypt

Overseas, ECB is designing three projects in Saudi Arabia, comprising a club, a logistics building attached to a port, and a residential project.

The company has also bid for a tender to provide design and engineering services for a hospital and airport in Yemen.

Abd El-Ghany added that ECB is also providing supervision and engineering services for projects in the United Kingdom, Tanzania and Sudan, and is coordinating with the Egyptian government to provide engineering services to projects in Iraq, Syria and Libya.

“We have set a target of 1.5 billion pounds ($95 million) in terms of overseas projects serviced by end-2021,” he noted.
