AL-AHSA — The Acting Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs, Dr. Majid Al-Qasabi on Tuesday launched here the first investment plant for sorting and recycling construction waste in the Kingdom.

The plant in the Al-Ahsa governorate is spread on an area of 100,000 sq. meters, and has an estimated capacity of 3,000 ton per day, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The project intends to sort waste from buildings under construction, infrastructure projects and road projects, and work on reusing the infrastructure.

In addition, the project will employ latest equipment, modern technology concepts, and is considered an investment of 15 years in terms of construction, operation, and maintenance.

The facility will eliminate the random disposal of construction waste, marking a significant step toward preserving the environment. The move is also in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 to boost service development in the municipal sector.

The project launch was aligned with Al-Ahsa Municipality's participation at the Municipal Investment Forum, which was held at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Center.

Al-Ahsa Mayor Adel Al-Milhim said: “The investment project aims to sort and recycle construction waste from buildings under construction, and infrastructure and road projects to minimize such waste that has become an environmental hazard and is disfiguring the appearance of these areas. Work is going on in reusing these materials for the infrastructure.”

Al-Milhim added: “The project takes into consideration using modern technology in constructing the project and ensuring compliance with the conditions for environmental protection by using the latest equipment and machinery.
