Sharjah: And finally after four days of fun-filled activities and competitions, the fourth edition of the Al Dhaid Dates Festival came to a close late on Saturday.
The big extravaganza has attracted up to 40,000 visitors and hundreds of palm farm owners from across the country during the four-day event held this year at new ‘Al Dhaid Expo Centre’.
Lucrative cash and in-kind prizes, worth Dh1 million, were presented to 362 winners in six competitions during the much-awaited carnival organized by the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI).

H.E Dr Eng Abdullah bin Mohammed Balheif Al Nuaimi, Minister of Infrastructure Development, accompanied by H.E Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadhi, Director General of the Sharjah Chamber toured the festival counters.

H.E Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) extended his appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for his relentless support to the activities and events of the Chamber, including ‘Al Dhaid Dates Festival’.

H.E Mohamed Ahmed Amin, Director General of the Chamber, paid tributes to all public and private partners, the palm tree is deeply rooted in UAE culture and heritage. “The annual festival financial and cultural values are countless.”

Mohammed Misbah Al Tunaiji, Director of Sharjah Chamber’s Branch in Al Dhaid and General Coordinator of the Festival, said the carnival has become so critical for more palm farm owners nationwide.
“This has been clear in the big number of participants, mainly in the dates beauty competitions, and visitors amounting to 40,000 in this fourth edition as compared to 30,000 last year.”
Meanwhile, H.E Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry honoured the winners in the six competitions of the festival, spanning the ‘Best Dates’, ‘Naghal Dates’, ‘Biggest Clump’, ‘Local Lemon’, ‘Best Dates Basket’ – for women only, and ‘Senior Nationals Dates Competition’.
