Al-Baqer: This joint effort aims at protecting the environment and minimizing waste in line with NBK’s sustainable development strategy

National Bank of Kuwait (NBK), in cooperation with Omnia Project Management, launched a campaign to collect the waste of Iftar meals served at NBK Iftar Tent to recycle about 9,000 plastic bottles and 9,000 cardboard boxes, in addition to launching its recycling awareness campaign through social media to provide advice and guidance provided by a dedicate team from Omnia.

This collaboration aims to protect the environment and reduce waste in line with NBK’s sustainable development strategy, which is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and New Kuwait Vision 2035. To translate this vision into action, dedicated recycling containers were placed in NBK Iftar Tent near the Scientific Center to encourage the community to participate in the recycling efforts.

"NBK is the first environmentally friendly bank in Kuwait, and this collaborative effort with Omnia represents a strategic partnership that seeks to contribute positively to environmental conservation and waste reduction. Through this partnership, NBK is keen to spread the culture of recycling waste and encourage people to adopt more environmentally friendly behaviors”. Yacoub Al-Baqer, NBK Public Relations Officer said.

Al-Baqer added that NBK is constantly seeking to further enhance its investments and responsibilities aimed at promoting a healthy environmental culture that positively reflects on the community. NBK has maintained its leadership as a pioneer in adopting environmental initiatives within the Bank and for the benefit of the broader community. “By the end of Ramadan, we aim to recycle up to 18,000 plastic and cardboard waste items”. Confirmed Al-Baqer.

Al-Baqer pointed out that NBK’s cooperation with Omnia is not limited to the holy month of Ramadan, but it is rather a long-lasting project that involves the launch of an extensive campaign on social media to raise awareness about the importance of getting involved in recycling. “At NBK, we are proud of such pioneering Kuwaiti talents and aspirations, such as Omnia project aimed at the development of a new Kuwait built on sustainability, a dream all Kuwaitis aspire to achieve”. Al-Baqer added.

NBK has led many eco-friendly campaigns, including recycling paper waste throughout all its departments and energy conservation efforts. NBK has also launched several environmental campaigns, such as camping sites and beach clean-up campaigns at the beginning of the summer season. Moreover, NBK has heavily invested in its new green headquarters, which LEED Gold certified as an eco-friendly is building.

Omnia is a national environmental and cultural project aimed at spreading the culture of sorting and recycling waste in the society, creating a new industry and reducing environmental pollution.
