Deals, signings and agreements were the key focus of the exhibitors and visitors at MRO Middle East today, including openings of new hubs and partnerships to increase innovation.

One such agreement announced during day one of MRO Middle East was an agreement between Satair, an Airbus services company and Honeywell to distribute Honeywell’s JetWave™ high-speed in-flight connectivity system to a wide segment of the global business jet market.

JetWave is a powerful communication system, which operates and communicates with the Inmarsat satellite network to deliver high-speed internet into the cabin to connect multiple devices. Satair will be distributing JetWave to the EMEA and India based Honeywell Dealers, as well as Part 145 MRO and repair facilities that will undertake the installation work and are not part of the Honeywell network.

Satair also used the event as a platform to announce its partnership with Joramco,  a leading independent commercial aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul company,  to supply consumables and expendables supporting both Boeing and Airbus aircraft.

With a history dating back more than 25 years, this deal marks a milestone in the relationship between Satair and Joramco. The agreement has global coverage and is set to go into effect immediately upon signing at MRO Middle East, from February 11th, 2019.

The event also served to demonstrate some of the latest innovations in technology and inform attendees how it can be applied in the aerospace industry. Two companies demonstrating virtual reality technology at MRO Middle East include Rapid Access and first time exhibitor Spiral Technology.

Rapid Access is showcasing virtual reality technology that the company is working closely with developers to bring specific aviation modules to the platform, with a goal of improving training to minimise damage to airframes, which could potentially save users tens of thousands of dollars. “This is one of the things the industry has asked to try and develop,” said Mike Palmer, Regional QHSE Manager at Rapid Access. “The technology is only about 12-14 months old and there are only about six or seven operational units in the world. We have two of them here in the Middle East.”

Spiral Technology chose to exhibit at MRO Middle East for the first time in 2019 to demonstrate mixed reality technology holographic headset aimed at improving the overall productivity of MRO personnel. The technology overlays a digital layer of information over the physical assets themselves, giving engineers the opportunity to work handsfree and have instructions in view. In particular, the technology aims to allow engineers to increase the speed of their operations while simultaneously reducing the number of errors which ultimately decreases engine turnaround time.

“This event is a great combination of conference and exhibition,” said Konstantyn Shyshkin, CEO, Spiral Technology. “We have seen how committed the industry is to innovation and to trialling new technologies.”

“Seeing the business done here today really reinforces the fact that the MRO industry in the Middle East is a growth opportunity across the whole supply chain,” said Lydia Janow, Managing Director/Events & Tradeshows, Aviation Week Network.  “With the region’s in-service fleet predicted to increase from 2,025 aircraft in 2018 to 3,475 aircraft in 2027, an annual growth rate of 6.2% and MRO demand expected to grow to $13.1 billion by the same year 2027, it’s clear to see exhibitors at MRO Middle East are well placed to meet these demands in future.”

MRO Middle East is co-located with Aircraft Interiors Middle East and continues tomorrow, 12 February, from 9:30 am at Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).
