SMETalks has concluded another successful webinar ‘COVID-19: A blessing in disguise’. The webinar addressed positive disruptions that have happened over the past year due to covid-19. 2020 was a difficult year for everyone around the world and SMETalks wanted to conclude this year on a positive note by shedding a light on the positive innovations that were created due to Covid-19 that will change the world forever.

The panel comprised of thought leaders like H.E. Hussain Al Mahmoudi, Chief Executive Officer, Sharjah Research Technology and Innovation Park; Mr. Alaa Elshimy, MD & SVP, Huawei Enterprise; Mr. Fadi Amoudi, Founder & CEO, IQ Fulfillment; Mr. Prashant (PK) Gulati, CEO Optimistix Ventures, Founder SmartStart Fund and The Assembly and, Mr. Walid Hareb AlFalahy, Chief Executive Officer, Dubai Consultancy moderating the webinar.

H.E. Dr Hussain Al Mahmoudi said “You talk about positivity and 2020 there is no doubt has been a very difficult year and we have to admit that, and there are a lot of people who are suffering because of Covid 19 but I think a lot of people realize that whether we are a government or private sector or individual or academia, we have to revisit the practices, we have we have to become smarter in the way that we work, we have to be practical and pragmatic in our approach and we have to also collaborate with each other because it is not a zero sum game we have but we have to win as an integral part of the way we work and that’s what I think the future brings.”

Alaa El Shimy shared his views that “It is up to us to create an opportunity out of a threat (covid-19) transforming their business leveraging on the digital way of doing business to grow and expand.”

“I truly believe being positioned in Dubai, and the UAE, we are at a gateway in order to interlink east and west, east and Africa to one another. Primarily E-commerce boomed as we know figures tripled in some countries and it became more of demand as you are stuck home and need your necessities fulfilled, quoted Fadi Amoudi.”

“We need to give credit to the government; the UAE’s government has been one of the governments that has reacted very swiftly. The UAE is one of the only places in the world that is safely open where people are going about their lives far closer to normalcy than any other part of the world and this has happened due to proactivity” said Prashant Gulati.

Mr. Walid Hareb concluded on a positive note that this pandemic has taught us that as a human being we can do things in much better way and save our planet for generations to come. We have learnt new things this year and looking for innovative disruptions in 2021.”
