Dubai, United Arab Emirates: The 23rd edition of Dubai International Pharmaceutical and Technology Conference and Exhibition – DUPHAT concluded today, at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center after 3 days of productive discussions, while playing host to a number of local and international specialists, pharmacists, top-notch speakers and hundreds of major pharmaceutical companies. By the end of the third day, the scientific committee had released the following DUPHAT Conference recommendations: 

  • Implementing brief training programs to spread awareness on pharmacovigilance and importance of reporting ADRs ( Adverse drug reactions) professionally, in addition to linking these programs to the professional licensing programs in all health care specialties. Furthermore, emphasizing the need to increase awareness among health care providers on the positive dealing with electronic drug alerts  without overriding them.
  • Establishing strategies that highlight the important role of the pharmaceutical care leadership in supporting and preparing front-line pharmacist to provide the best service and to accommodate comfortably with the rapid changes in work environment.
  • Encouraging leaders in the pharmaceutical care field to train, and utilize the latest advances in technology and effective innovation through adopting best practice methodologies and to grow further beyond the usual traditional roles.
  • Develop a regulatory body to define the use of social media in medication management.
  • Combining efforts of regulatory authorities hand in hand with manufacturing companies, distributors, wholesales, consumer organization, world governmental bodies, and technical experts to guarantee the safe execution of supply chain and delivery of safe medicines to patients.
  • Implementation of new methodology and credentials in medication error prevention to encourage the involvement of the patient and families in preventing the errors, and in its reporting process to reinforce safety of pharmaceutical care services.
  • Employing the latest technology in drug management activities in order to avail and updating and integrated electronic patient medical file for health care providers which optimize patient safety and enhances therapeutic outcomes.
  • Establishing and implementing strategies to counteract the multi-resistant organisms’ dilemma through rationalizing the antibacterial prescribing, and to develop therapeutic methodologies and new drug entities for prohibiting resistance, in addition to incorporating principles of epidemiology and pharmacy practice which empowers the pharmacist role in drug management.
  • Highlight the importance of active involvement of pharmacists currently and in the future in the genomics and biologics field, in addition, to the involvement in the 3-d printing technology and personalizing medication preparation and treatment therapies.
  • Inclusion of drug counseling courses in Pharmacy Curricula in order to prepare future pharmacists for playing a positive role in community.

This year, DUPHAT conference and exhibition, attracted a large number of local and international companies in the pharmaceutical industry. ‘Modern Pharmaceutical Company’ hosted the largest local stand and ‘Cinnagen’ featured the largest international stand, while ‘China’ had the largest Country pavilion.
