The sultanate's electricity generation in the first two months of 2020 declined by 4.9 per cent as against the similar period last year, the data revealed by Authority for Electricity Regulation (AER) showed.

In a tweet posted through its official twitter handle, AER said, 'During the January-February period of this year, the total electricity output in the country fell 4.9 per cent to 3,966MW.' Out of the total power generated in the country, northern and central region of Oman - known as Interconnected and Sharqiya zones - accounted for majority of the output around 3,402MW, while rural system accounted for just minuscule 149MW generation.

As per the AER data, Dhofar System accounted for 415MW of electricity output in the January-February period of 2020.

On the other hand, the total production of water in the first two months of current year rose 5.5 per cent to 54.97mn cubic metres. The Main Interconnected System, which also includes cities like Sohar and Muscat, accounts around 90 per cent of the production at 50.33mn cubic metres. Dhofar region comes second as it accounts for just 4.08mn cubic metres of water production, while rural regions account for just 550,000 cubic metres of water production in the country.

AER also provides details of electricity and water production for the month of January 2020. In January, Oman's electricity production suffered a steep decline of 13 per cent at 1,915MW compared to similar month last year. At the same time, the sultanate's water production rose 3.3 per to 28.31mn cubic metres.
