Abu Dhabi: YouTube ‘royalty’ has voiced its support for Middle East Games Con, the ultimate gaming fest, taking place in Abu Dhabi this weekend until 9pm on Saturday, October 27. Now in its second year, the show has already exceeded all expectation by surpassing the visitor numbers that attended in 2017 on just the first day, with more passionate fans flying in from across the globe to enjoy the event.
Syndicate and Miniminter, two of YouTube’s biggest superstars, hit the show running with a hectic schedule of meet and greet sessions with the fans – and admitted they were amazed by the passion, energy and sheer volume of visitors ready for the show’s opening.
Hundreds of gamers queued at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) event to catch a glimpse of the two stars – alongside regional gamer and vlogger Hemo King, and gaming voice over artists Lucie Pohl, the voice of Mercy from Overwatch, and Doug Cockle who voices Geralt from The Witcher franchise.
Syndicate is behind one of YouTube’s top 100 subscribed channels. “We literally arrived and could see crowds of people forming to say hello to us,” the Youtuber explained. “It’s my first time here and I’m super excited. This is an amazing event, it looks so professional. Look out for us going against each other on stage – we are playing FIFA which I have only played once in my life…!”
Miniminter is a renowned gamer, vlogging his exploits playing FIFA and Call of Duty, and is one of the ‘Sidemen’, a group of vlogging friends who often game together. “I’m so excited to be here. It’s amazing to be so far away from home but still see so many fans, and put faces to my fans,” said Miniminter.
Suzy Pallett, EVP of Informa’s Consumer Division, the event organiser, added: “Our talent is proving a real draw and encouraging so many people to visit the event. There’s more than 100,000 square feet of gaming – featuring five unreleased games, eight eSports tournaments, YouTubers, voice over artists, retro, tabletop, console and PC gaming, our artist alley, and new zones including ANIFEST, an immersion into Anime and Japanese culture.”
