The Shura Council yesterday approved a mutual aviation agreement between Bahrain and Italy.

MPs had given the go-ahead last month and it will now be ratified by His Majesty King Hamad.

The Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry said the agreement would allow better and faster commercial trade between the two countries, while encouraging tourism through direct flights.

“Italy is the third biggest European country and the 10th biggest exporter in the world,” said member Mona Almoayed.

“It is the biggest manufacturer of fashion and trend whether clothes, leather, cars, medicines, machines and food,” she added.

“There are 94 million tourists going to Italy yearly making it the fourth highest visited country.

“This agreement will certainly increase commercial and tourist exchanges between both the countries with Bahrain diversifying its non-oil revenues.”
