KUWAIT CITY -  According to reliable sources from the Ministry of Electricity and Water, a tender has been signed to supply 200,000 smart meters during mid-February, reports Al-Qabas daily.

They revealed that the ministry attaches great importance to the tender, and has been counting on it since the beginning of the smart transformation at the level of the consumption system.

The sources said, “The ministry is working on developing an installation plan for the meters, especially since the first supply will be made four months after the signing. This period will be used to conduct a complete survey of the areas in which the meters will be installed. The survey aims to match the data in the field with those on the ministry’s systems, which represents a historic opportunity to update all data nationwide according to the different stages of installation”.

Meanwhile, Head of the inspection team at the ministry Adnan Dashti revealed that the total number of citations issued by the team in 2020 was 1,480, including the various forms of violations on the network such as tampering with meters, connecting water or electricity directly to the network without a meter, changing the sizes of fuses, wasting electricity and water, and other forms of irregularities.

He explained that the team referred two violations involving 30 chalets in one of the maritime cities to the prosecution during the past year. A number of violators signed reconciliation orders and paid the total amounts owed to them in the interest of the ministry in return for reconnection of the electricity and water. Also clearance certificates were issued before the services were restored.
