At least six more airlines, including Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways, will be implementing the IATA Travel Pass, a mobile app designed to provide more ease to passengers travelling during the pandemic.

The two Gulf carriers, as well as Jazeera Airways, Jetstar, Qantas and Royal Jordanian join Emirates Airline as implementing pioneers of the app, according to a statement on Wednesday. These airlines are expected to make the digital tool available to their customers over the coming months.

The announcement follows nearly one year of extensive testing by 76 airlines around the world.

“After months of testing, IATA Travel Pass is now entering the operational phase. The app has proven itself to be an effective tool to manage the complex mess of travel health credentials that governments require,” said Willie Walsh, director general of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The app serves as a one-stop shop for travellers to store and manage all the necessary documents required to board a flight, including COVID-19 test results and vaccine certificates.

It can also help users find relevant information on travel, testing and vaccine requirements of the destinations they plan to visit.
