PowerGen, a renewable utility operator across Africa, and AP Renewables, a fully-owned subsidiary of Nigeria’s energy firm Ardova, have signed a memorandum of understanding to develop more than 10 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy through “Power-as-a-Service (PaaS)” business solution.

The pact will help transition Ardova’s retail outlets from conventional diesel generators and grid power supply to distributed renewable energy systems consisting of solar PV and battery storage, PowerGen said in a statement.

The project will drive energy cost savings and CO2 emission reductions for Ardova’s retail stations, while also operating as energy hubs that will provide electricity to small businesses, households, and communities within its surrounding environment, the statement said.
