Oman’s Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources is expected to award the consultancy contract for feasibility study and detailed design for Recharge Dams in Wilayats Al Sunainah and Dhank, Bowsher, by the first quarter of 2023.

“The feasibility study and detailed design consultancy contract is expected to be awarded by end of January 2023,” a source aware of the project details told Zawya Projects.

He said the tender was issued on 15 August 2022 with bid submission due on 26 September 2022 and later extended to 10 October 2022.

The commercial bidders comprised of Dar Al Handasah ($929,713), Libanconsult Consulting Engineers ($714,127), Via International Engineering Consultancy ($888,705), Nespak and Partners ($859,518), Conser and Partners Engineering Services ($678,913), Sering International ($738,505), and Renardet SA and Partners Consulting Engineers ($737,844).

Twelve companies had submitted technical bids for the project.

The scope involves the construction of at least four recharge dams to alleviate water shortage and augment the groundwater resources in wadis of Wilayats Al Sunainah and Dhank, a second source told Zawya Projects

The consultants are required to study the feasibility of recharge dams and subsequently prepare detail designs and tender documents for different locations. During this stage, all the wadis shall be considered, and any number of sites shall be identified and prioritised after screening the best possible locations recommended.

The project is slated for completion by the second quarter of 2025, the first source said, adding that his estimate of the project cost is $60 million.
