Oman’s Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) of Oman is expected release the tender for the main construction work for the Musandam airport by the fourth quarter of 2021, according to a source.  

“The design work is currently ongoing with completion expected by end of August 2021," the source told Zawya Projects, adding that the tender for the main construction work is expected to be released by November 2021.  

The source said the project is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2024. 

The scope of work includes the construction of two runways, a 250,000 passengers per year terminal, airstrip, aprons, Air Traffic Control tower, aircraft hangars, aircraft parking capable of handling aircrafts up to Boeing 737 and Airbus 320 size, cargo facilities, gate positions, taxiways, service buildings and terminal, fire and rescue equipment buildings, navigation and lighting system, commercial and retail units and parking facilities, a second source told Zawya Projects. 

He said the estimated project value is $220 million. 

Renardet SA & Partners Consulting Engineers is the master plan and design consultant, according to Refinitiv Projects database. 

This will be the country’s sixth airport after Muscat, Salalah, Sohar, Duqm and Khasab, according to a July 2019 report by Times of Oman.
