Iraq will soon offer a project to build an international airport in its Western Al-Anbar Governorate to investors after design studies are completed.

In press comments published on Wednesday, Ibrahim Al-Janabi, governor of Ramadi, the main city in Iraq’s largest governorate, said a “specialised” government team has started working on the project’s final designs.

“This strategic project will be offered to local and foreign investors after the designs are completed and the 2021 state budget is issued,” Al-Janabi told the official Iraqi Alsabah newspaper.

He said the Governorate has allocated land for the project, with an area of around 750,000 square metres.

In comments last month, Khalaf Al-Tarmouz, an adviser to Al-Anbar Governor, said companies from Turkey, Canada and Australia have submitted offers to build the international airport. He did not provide cost estimate.
