Egypt's Urban Development Fund (UDF) has launched project to develop Fustat area in historic Cairo at total investment of 6 billion Egyptian pounds ($243 million).

Key components of the project, spread over an area of 500 acres, include:

  • Amr ibn al-Aas Mosque and the recreational centre of Fustat Park, Martyrs' Square, Castle Square, Garden Square and Parking Lot
  • Reception Garden and Cairo House
  • Police station, Club of the Ministry of Antiquities, and National Documents House
  • Churches area
  • Al Bustan Walk
  • Children's creative centre and interaction area with pets
  • National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation
  • Memorial Park
  • Botanical garden
  • Iconic figurine and ceremonial arena

Urban Development Fund (UDF), previously known as the Informal Settlements Development Fund (ISDF), was established under prime minister’s decree in August 2021, and is affiliated to the cabinet.
