AED 28.280 million, the total of the 53rd Distinguished Numbers Auction

The plate number G80 stirred the auction hall and fetched Dh2.64 million topping the list that included 87 distinguished numbers, including three 2-digit numbers offered in the Distinguished Numbers Auction organized by Roads & Transport Authority (RTA)at Jumeriah Beach Hotel, Dubai.

Total proceeds of Auction 53, which is part of a series of Distinguished Numbers Auction organized by the RTA, amounted to Dh28.280 million. Numbers on offer were spread over 14 categories under codes F, G & D; the nominal value of which is estimated as Dh5.2 million.

The two-digit numbers (F62, F91 & G80) blazed the competition between bidders whose number exceeded 300, to lead the list of numbers offered. The number G80 was the sales topper, followed by F91; which was sold at Dh2 million, then came the number F62; which fetched Dh1.96 million such that the value of the top three numbers amounted to Dh6.42 million.

While the number F500 thrilled the bidders to be sold for Dh960,000, the surprise of the auction was sprung by the 4-digit numbers, as evident from the sale of the number F8888 for Dh970,000 & F5555; which was sold for Dh950,000.

Engineer Maitha bin Adai, CEO of RTA Traffic & Roads Agency stated that the purpose of organizing these auctions is to meet the desire of a large category of the community in acquiring distinguished numbers. "In response to the desire of these segments, RTA will continue staging these auctions through the end of 2007, but auctions will be much improved and better presented in a in 2008" she noted.
