The local event which is set to be held from October 22nd to 23rd 2018, will provide 40 shortlisted teams from 19 colleges and universities across the Sultanate with the opportunity to debate with like-minded peers in regards to environmental conservation and a chance to move on to the regional competition in Dubai in November.
This year’s competition is expected to attract more than 168 students from 19 colleges and universities across Oman. Focusing on developing a deep appreciation of the environment by understanding the challenges through inquiry and dialogue, teams are expected to research and debate on a number of topics including ‘Sustainable Built Environment; Are we achieving it?’, ‘Impact of Fashion and Make up Industry on the Environment’, ‘The Future of Agriculture in the Middle East’ and ‘The Impact of Wars on the Environment’. Four winning teams will go on to represent the Sultanate in the regional finals and compete against students from a number of Arab nations in Dubai on 27th and 28th of November 2018.

It is an interactive, hands on platform that allows students to truly understand the impact we have on the environment. From the effects of our habits to how we can conserve and become more eco-friendly. Through their research and discussions during their participation in the competition they will learn how to make a change and make these students ambassadors for the environment. Through the years, this competition has made a positive impact on hundreds of Omani students who have learned how to be more environmentally responsible”

“We have a responsibility towards the environment and have a duty to protect it. We all know that the way we live and the choices we make will have an impact,” said Taha Al Qasmi ICEPSC Ambassador “This competition really created a great learning experience on environmental issues and helped those of us who are passionate about conservation to learn more and discuss the most pressing issues. I’m incredibly grateful to participate and optimistic of the good that will come from it.”
ESO launched the ICEPSC in 2012, in association with the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG), as part of its efforts to motivate students to learn about important environmental issues, build their confidence, and offer them a platform to become ambassadors of sustainable living. Over the past six years, hundreds of teams from throughout the Sultanate have gained confidence in their ability and personality, driving them to strengthen their bond with nature and explore ways to improve their quality of life without compromising on future generations.
