Software AG is one of 12 finalists for the Big Data Award
The nomination is for a project with customer Sabre, a global technology company for the travel industry
The project uses BigMemory, the in-memory big data management solution
Dubai, UAE, December 18, 2012
"Creating Value from Big Data" is the theme of Computerwoche magazine's competition, Big Data 2012. The projects by the 12 finalists battling for the coveted award all exemplify the theme. Software AG is presenting its Sabre project live on stage at the Computerwoche Big Data conference in Offenbach.
Sabre is a globally operating technology supplier for the travel industry whose business involves thousands of booking requests per second. It implemented BigMemory, the flagship product of Terracotta (a wholly-owned subsidiary of Software AG), in only two months and is now working with a highly available big data platform. Millions of leisure and business travelers use the platform to book hotels, flights, rental cars, and other services--worldwide--on the Internet.
A traditional IT infrastructure could no longer handle the flood of data. Sabre is relying on Software AG's in-memory technology to fulfill its customers' requirements for high availability of information--every second thousands of transactions run on the platform. Now the platform can manage terabytes of data and cope with thousands of users at once accessing structured and semi-structured data in real-time. The project has been nominated for the Big Data Award 2012 and will be presented today at the Big Data Conference in Offenbach, Germany.
"We are proud to have been nominated as a finalist for the Big Data Award," stated Ivo Totev, Software AG's chief marketing officer. "The big data phenomenon has developed rapidly in recent months and marks an upheaval in corporate IT environments that managers around the world must face. The Big Data Award shows where the future will take us and how the latest technologies help clients successfully meet the challenges that huge amounts of data present."
Marco Gerazounis, Senior VP Middle East North Africa & Turkey, Software AG, said: "There has been a dramatic increase in the amount of data being used all over the world as enterprises increasingly take advantage of information technology as a key tool for business growth. The same trend is being echoed across the Middle East wherein enterprises are actively investing in advanced IT technologies, which in turn drive the volume and detail of information being used and processed by these companies. Being nominated in the Big Data Award is therefore a very important milestone as it clearly demonstrates Software AG's capabilities to effectively support business enterprises enhance growth, productivity and innovation through effective and efficient big data management."
BigMemory, the industry-leading in-memory data management solution for big data from Terracotta Inc., has already won an award in the US, having received the 2012 DataWeek Award for Top Innovator in the "Big Data Technology" category earlier this month for its innovation in data management.
