Two senior AECOM executives have been taking part in the Arabian World Construction summit being held in Abu Dhabi this week between May 24th and 26th.
David Barwell, Chief Executive for AECOM in the Middle East was part of a key panel session on the first day of the conference which looked at how companies can protect their profit margins amidst the global economic squeeze
Barwell said that he welcomed the opportunity to discuss the challenges that companies had been facing by trading through the economic downturn.
"This was an ideal opportunity to discuss a wide range of issues including how you ensure that your business remains strong in the face of the downturn and how we have responded to increased competition whilst still effectively managing costs and investing for growth. Especially on behalf of AECOM I will be looking to illustrate how we have combined our long standing local knowledge with our global expertise to try and bring added value to our clients. The conference highlighted the Middle East as a market of continual growth with a nuber of the world's most exciting projects."
James F. Thompson, Chief Executive for AECOM's International Government Services and President for AECOM in Libya, where the company is engaged in a US$65 billion housing and infrastructure program, presented a profile on the country.
Thompson said that he was "excited at being able to present and promote what was one of the largest program's of its kind worldwide."
He added, "AECOM is serving as Program Manager and principal advisor to the great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya Housing and Infrastructure Board's (HIB). Our mission is to implement the overall capital program for the HIB and to guide and train HIB and Libyan personnel in the proper and efficient way to plan, design and construct badly needed public housing and infrastructure systems."
Themed as 'Growing in a Challenging Market', the summit was focussed on how the industry is gearing up to seize the opportunities presented by the 2010 GCC growth forecasts whilst dealing with the legacy of the global property crash that led to project delays and cancellations.
