The 5th Annual Corrosion Management 2016 underway at Al Khobar, KSA, which witnessed industry leaders from Saudi Aramco, Sadara Chemicals, SABIC amongst others, discuss new innovations and solutions for managing corrosion.
The 5th Annual Corrosion Management 2016 event kicked off at the Sofitel Hotel, Al Khobar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Monday. The event witnessed top industry experts from across the Middle East come together and stage a dialogue on corrosion management in key industries in KSA.
Dr. Abdullah Al Shahrani – Lab Scientist at Saudi Aramco, inaugurated the event, followed by a presentation on Saudi Aramco's operational experience with downhole sweet and sour corrosion by Jawad Al Tammar – Petroleum Engineering Consultant at Saudi Aramco, followed by a case study titled 'Microbiological induced corrosion in stainless steel piping: Sadara experience' by Taner Serter – Senior Asset Integrity Engineer and Saleh Rajeh – Senior Supervisor at Sadara Chemical Company. Dr Rami Suleiman – Research Scientist at the Center of Research Excellence in Corrosion Research Institute, KFUPM presented 'Novel hybrid Sol-gel coatings for protecting mild steel against corrosion and fouling in saline medium' which gave a historical account on the development of hybrid organic-inorganic materials as coatings for metal substrates and field testing analysis of newly-developed coatings over mild steel substrate at beach side locations.
The post lunch session featured innovative product showcases from the exhibitors. Khalil Abed – Regional Manager at Cortec Middle East, spoke about Cortec's products for asset preservation for operational readiness, while Ahmed Mazloum - Sales Manager for Inspection Technologies at GE demonstrated GE's cutting edge predictive corrosion management tools. Cristophe Baete – ELSYCA NV Manager gave a stellar presentation on 'Managing external corrosion threats on buried pipelines' followed by a session on 'Experimental investigations of erosion and corrosion – enhanced erosion phenomenon in different metals' by Dr Ihsan ul-Haq Toor – Director ME Corrosion lab and Asst. Professor at KFUPM.
They key highlights of the day included a panel discussion titled 'What are the design factors that are a must to be considered?', moderated by Abdulaziz Almathami – R&D Group Manager for Corrosion & Material Group at Baker Hughes – Dhahran Global Technology Center, while Dr. Hamad Almostaneer – Scientist (MCSD) at SABIC, Jawad Al Tammar, Taner Serter and Saleh Rajeh participated as the panelists. Imran Saeed – Head of RBI Services at Applus Velosi and Abdullah Al Shahrani – Lab Scientist at Saudi Aramco presented insightful case studies titled 'Development and implementation of RBM systems' and 'Organic and inorganic coating for corrosion protection in oil and gas industry' respectively.
Tuesday, the second day of the event, will witness dedicated sessions on critical asset integrity through corrosion mitigation and relevant case studies by Dr Abdulaziz Almathami, Allahdad Khan – Corrosion Enginner at Saudi Aramco, Ahmad A Sorour – Director at Center of Research Excellence in Corrosion at KFUPM, Mohammed Abufour – Board Member at The American Society for Non-destructive Testing, Saudi Arabia Chapter and Shin Kyeong Shik – MOC Dispatcher at Yanbu NGL Fractionation Department , Saudi Aramco. The second event day will feature a panel discussion titled 'Coping with limited budgets to ensure effective maintenance and installation programs are carried out' and an exclusive workshop by Chris Todd – Regional Manager (Middle East) at Denso titled 'Denso steelcoat tank base protection system – the proven system for sealing chime area of above ground storage tanks'.
The event saw active participation by the sponsors and exhibitors. Global Corrosion Solutions Ltd. and Emkanat Trading have partnered as the Silver partners for the event, while Applus Velosi, Abdulla Fouad, Cortec and GE joined the event as the Associate Partners. Intertek and Seal for Life Industries are onboard as the Networking and Visiting Partners respectively, with Denso as the Workshop Leader.
