BOSTON, MA: In July 2018, Global Athletic leader, New Balance, launched the program to challenge the product creation process and deliver new innovative products to consumers fast. PRJ 2.0 was created in the New Balance Global Design Center by 23-year-old Adara Dillabaugh, a Design Foundry Apprentice, who was inspired by the performance running shoe Fresh Foam More that launches in April. The limited edition PRJ 2.0, designed by Adara, will launch globally on New Balance.com and with exclusive retail partners such as Bodega, Extra Butter and Heartbreak Hill Run Co. on March 9, 2019 for $180, and in the UAE, it will be available at the New Balance store in Dubai Mall from 31st March 2019, for AED649.
“When we saw Adara’s concept, mixing the performance Fresh Foam More midsole with a bold, futuristic fashion upper, we knew that it was the shoe we had to build,” said Meredith Nash, Senior Product Manager (Global) for Future Sport at New Balance. “It’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen from New Balance and under the Test Run program, we’re able to get it to the consumer in just 7 months!”
For PRJ 2.0, the team was challenged to take the max cushioned Fresh Foam More and create a shoe they would want to wear. Adara’s design utilized the midsole from the performance running shoe, Fresh Foam More, that she has been wearing throughout her internship. Through Adara’s personal preference of the Fresh Foam More model and her inspiration of the 50th anniversary of the Moon Landing, commercial space flight and a revival of SciFi films the PRJ 2.0 is a design that brings fashion and performance together.
“I was originally wearing the Fresh Foam More to run in however, they quickly became a part of my everyday wardrobe” said Adara Dillabaugh New Balance Design Foundry Apprentice. “When I had a chance to design a lifestyle upper for this model I wanted to emphasize the retro space motif as it’s a trend I really gravitate towards.”
Designed to provide the most cushioning New Balance has ever had, the Fresh Foam More midsole is soft yet supportive with a bigger, chunkier silhouette. Adara took key elements of the Fresh Foam More and made them her own, incorporating materials inspired by space, black holes and space-time continuum with bright, bold colors and a futuristic design that won the hearts of the New Balance product team to become the next iteration of the New Balance program.
