NACE, the National Association of Corrosion Engineers - the benchmark for corrosion industry standards worldwide - has thrown its weight behind the region’s only international exhibition for the chemical, petrochemical, chemical process technology, corrosion control and management industries, taking place in Dubai, next week.

NACE’s support for Chemtex & Corrosion MiddleEast 2003, to be held at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre (DIEC) from March 4-6, is a major boost for the show’s organisers, International Expo-Consults (IEC).

With representatives in 91 countries NACE has an expanding Middle East membership, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Its support underlines the event’s status as the region’s premier corrosion control forum.

“NACE has 60 years experience in developing corrosion prevention and control standards. It is the world’s largest organisation committed to the study of corrosion and has over 300 members in the Middle East, all of whom will be among our targeted visitors,” said Mohammed Falaknaz, Vice President, IEC.

“Its backing, for the exhibition, strengthens Chemtex and Corrosion’s leading position as the only Middle East show for businesses that want to access the demand for the latest corrosion control technology and thinking.”

Founded in 1943, NACE is committed to the study of corrosion. In addition to developing corrosion prevention and control standards, it organises conferences, certifies industry professionals and raises awareness of corrosion control and prevention technology among government agencies and legislators, businesses, professional societies and the general public worldwide.

“The effects of corrosion are pervasive. A recently released study estimated the total direct cost of corrosion in the US to be US $276 billion. More than a quarter of this could be saved, by employing state-of-the-art corrosion management practices. Other studies throughout the world have drawn similar conclusions,” said Noman K Faridi, Chairman of the UAE NACE Chapter.
“Many of the products and technologies to be featured at Chemtex and Corrosion Middle East 2003 provide the means to prevent or mitigate the effects of corrosion in diverse industries, including the chemical, petroleum and chemical process industries.”

IEC says the exhibition will have a renewed focus on chemical process technology, in response to strong industry demand. In addition, it will also feature dedicated areas for speciality chemicals and polymer raw materials and an expanded industry-led conference and seminars programme.

With national and industry pavilion commitments from India, China, Korea, and Canada, Chemtex and Corrosion 2003 will be the largest in the event’s history. It is officially supported by the Government of Dubai’s Department of Economic Development and Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing and the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
