Director of operations welcomes new GM at InterContinental Dubai


Dubai, UAE, October 21, 2003:  Anthony Liddiard, general manager of the Crowne Plaza Dubai, has been appointed as director of operations for InterContinental Hotels Group for the UAE and Qatar.
 
One of his first official duties following his promotion has been to welcome Tom Meyer as the new general manager of the InterContinental Dubai, one of seven hotels now under Liddiard’s direction in the UAE and Qatar.
 
While remaining in charge at the Crowne Plaza Dubai, Liddiard also assumes overall operations responsibilities for the InterContinental Abu Dhabi, the InterContinental Resort Al Ain, the InterContinental Dubai, the InterContinental Doha, the Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi  and the Holiday Inn Downtown Dubai.
 
Liddiard has spent 18 of his 26 years in the hotel industry with the InterContinental hotels, beginning in 1984 when he joined the Regency InterContinental Bahrain as assistant food and beverage manager.
 
He was regional director of sales and marketing for InterContinental hotels in Oman and for InterContinental hotels in the Middle East before being appointed area vice president, sales and marketing, for the Middle East and Africa, based in Cairo, in 1992.
 
In 1997 he was appointed genreral manager of the InterContinental Muscat, overseeing a major renovation which transformed the property from a business hotel by the beach into a resort within the city. He became general manager of the Crowne Plaza Dubai in September 2001.
 
Tom Meyer has transferred to Dubai from the InterContinental Hong Kong where he has held the position off hotel manager, overseeing the overall management of the hotel, since May 2001.
 
Originally from Sydney, Australia, Meyer has extensive experience in hotel operations and food and beverage management, including almost 20 years with the InterContinental Hotels Group.
 
He joined InterContinental in 1982 as a trainee in Hamburg, and his career has taken him to a number of senior management positions in Singapore, Manila and Sydney where he developed several new concepts and served as project manager for the refurbishment of all restaurants and entertainment outlets in the hotel.
