ALARGAN Vice Chairman and CEO takes on role of Chairman of Kuwait Green Building Council
Kuwait: The Kuwait Green Building Council (Kuwait GBC), the national and non-profit organization for the development of a sustainable property sector in Kuwait, partnered with the Kuwait Construction Week Conference to deliver and moderate the two-day talks on sustainability, energy efficiency and green building practices in the local industry.
Moderating an array of architects, engineers and consultants from the industry, Kuwait GBC brought industry leaders and experts together, providing them with a platform to share knowledge and solutions and provoke exchange of thoughts and conversations with the audience on energy-efficient and green projects.
The Conference aimed at bridging the gap between the public and private sectors, raising awareness and encouraging the adoption of green building practices in Kuwait, providing insights to the latest conservation measures, sustainable urbanization, optimization of energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, tenants’ health and LEED criteria. In its first day, the Conference discussed “Energy and Sustainability”, while talks focused on “Delivering Sustainability” in the second day. The Conference also provided workshops on how to implement sustainable practices in the industry.
Kuwait GBC Chairman, Engineer Khaled Al-Mashaan, launched the talks expressing that green buildings should be in the heart of how we live, work and play. Al-Mashaan also put his concerns forward on how can we convince the public sector in establishing an energy audit system that would become a benchmark for developers in the market.
Al-Mashaan said: “We have a responsibility as organizations, companies, individuals and government authorities to develop green buildings that support an economically and socially healthier urban environment where we can make savings in the consumption of natural resources, protect the environment and ensure that the needs of future generations are also met. With sustainable urbanization becoming a core challenge today, the Kuwait Construction Week comes at the right time to deliver a conference to companies and consumers who want to contribute to sustainability and energy-efficiency in buildings.”
Al-Mashaan presented the Council’s long-term goals in educating about sustainable planning and development to create living spaces that have little impact on the environment, consume less resources, and ensure the health, comfort and high performance of its users.
Kuwait GBC provides training and knowledge to promote sustainable development in the property sector, as well as provides real numbers to costs and savings made in projects during the construction process and the lifecycle of buildings. The organization is affiliated with the World Green Building Council, benefiting from the expertise of 100 national councils around the world.
