Dubai, United Arab Emirates - Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (Hikma, Group) (LSE: HIK) (NASDAQ Dubai: HIK) (OTC: HKMPY) (rated Ba1 Moody’s / BB+ S&P, both stable), the multinational generic pharmaceutical company, announced the completion of a number of community-driven and employee-centric initiatives on the heels of the company’s annual Global Volunteering Day and the holy month of Ramadan.
“Our Global Volunteering campaign and Ramadan initiatives have always been an opportune time for us at Hikma to support the communities in which we operate, while raising awareness on wide-ranging social and environmental issues,” said Hana Darwazeh Ramadan, VP of Corporate Social Responsibility at Hikma. “We take pride in providing opportunities for our employees to participate in community service activities that give back to our local communities, our people and our environment, creating a shared value for all.”
The following provides a recap of the company’s community service initiatives organised through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. Working with Charities in MENA: During Ramadan, a series of events were held in several countries across the MENA region. Hikma staff members volunteered in various charity activities targeting underprivileged segments of society and participated in multiple functions aimed at building strong relationships among employees.
Global Volunteering Day: In its eleventh year, the company’s annual Global Volunteering Day saw various activities taking place at multiple Hikma locations across the globe. For the duration of the campaign, over 200 Hikma employees participated in community service events geared towards improving the living conditions of local community members; advancing physical and mental wellbeing; delivering food donations; and promoting environmental conservation.
Distributing Meals: Hikma in Algeria collaborated with ‘Al-Shehab’ scouts to arrange an event to distribute food items to more than 54 families in the municipality of Souidania. In Egypt, several Hikma employees delivered Iftar meals for families residing in a disadvantaged district, as well as for patients in three public hospitals: Abu L-Reesh Mounira Children’s Hospital, National Cancer Institute and October 6 University Hospital.
Renovating Homes and Working with Students: Hikma in Jordan partnered with the Royal Health Awareness Society and Tkiyet Um Ali to paint and renovate houses in underprivileged areas in Sahab and Salt, as well as organised health-related events at two public schools. Employees engaged with approximately 400 young students through storytelling, colouring and health-themed classroom games.
Addressing Bullying in Schools and Conservation Efforts: Employees in Egypt addressed school violence and bullying at a rural public school. They interacted with 100 young students through experiential learning and various art activities and games that focused on respect, empathy and setting boundaries. Meanwhile, employees in Saudi Arabia joined an outdoor cleaning initiative, which involved collecting plastic waste from water reserves inside natural caves in efforts to conserve the natural environment.
Helping Families in Need: To help families in need, the US teams volunteered with various local organisations, including a charity house that has been providing families with low-cost accommodation during medical treatments and delivering food donations to local pantries, stocking shelves, preparing produce and moving inventory.
