Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre

November 19th to 21st, 2012

Illustrating an expanded French attendance at the Speciality Food Festival 2012, the French Pavilion organised by UBIFRANCE will this year be hosting bovine meat producers as well as fine food companies. Being the only tradeshow in the Middle East for gourmet, cottage-industry and fine food products, the SFF is an opportunity for those companies to raise their profile among sector professionals. For the third Speciality Food Festival, the French Pavilion has grown to 12 French businesses, 25% more than in 2011.

As a result of the signing of a bovine meat sanitary certificate by the French Ministry of Agriculture and the MOEW (Ministry of Environment & Water) last March, the bovine meat market was able to open up to French producers. So for the first time since the embargo ended, three French bovine meat producers, represented by the GEF (Association for French Exports of meat, livestock and genetics founded November 9th, 2011 by INTERBEV in order to enhance French bovine breeding and conquer new booming markets), are taking part in a tradeshow in the United Arab Emirates. Elivia, Deveille SAS and SVA Jean Rozé will be seizing the opportunity offered by the Speciality Food Festival to conquer Gulf markets and to introduce them to French bovine meat, which provides texture and taste in its own right.

According to Christelle Labernède, Head of the Agribusiness Department - Ubifrance UAE & Qatar:

"The Speciality Food Festival represents a genuine opportunity for all the French gourmet companies and particularly for the 3 French bovine meat producers attending the tradeshow, namely SVA Jean Rozé, Elivia and Deveille SAS. There are plenty of local importers wanting to import French meat: one company has already secured an importer through Ubifrance and its meat is already being delivered to the best Dubai restaurants. The food service is crucial to French food exports. Since 2011, tourism in Dubai has been booming, with a hotel occupancy rate reaching new highs at 82% in 2011 against just 70% in 2010, and 2012 so far is looking even better. Our food industry exports to the UAE are constantly rising year after year, and are now worth close to €215m (up 20% from 2010)."

As happened last year, the French Pavilion will provide a means to explore and to sample the sheer diversity of gourmet products from France, which enjoy an excellent reputation throughout the Middle East: foie gras, fine oils, chocolate, fruit pastes, pastry and biscuits, candied chestnuts and natural smoothies, beef meat....
