Sharjah - Expo Centre Sharjah has announced that it will organize mass weddings annually with the support of the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and revive the kind of weddings that Sharjah had been a pioneer at organizing since 1990, based the directives of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, which then prompted most of the other Arab and Islamic countries at the time to adopt this idea, and it was later applied by non-Islamic countries as well.

The centre hosted the first Arab mass wedding, which was organized by the Arab Family Organisation (AFO), with the participation of 500 brides and grooms from the UAE and various other Arab countries.

The event, which was held under the slogan of `Zayed Arab Mass Wedding,' is the biggest of its kind in the world, and is one of the centre’s initiatives for the Year of Zayed. The event is also part of the centre’s efforts to promote the UAE's long-standing approach to philanthropy and community service, which is an integral part of the Centre's strategy for 2018-2022.

HE Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO of Expo Centre Sharjah, welcomed the celebration of the mass wedding at the centre, which represented a unique wedding event in the Arab region. He stated that the centre was not only reserved for the organization of international economic and cultural exhibitions and conferences, but it was directed by His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to act as a miniature blueprint for the Emirate of Sharjah, and as a platform for local, regional, Arab, and international events aimed at serving people and enhancing their happiness. He praised the contributions and generosity of Emirati businessman Abdul Rahim Mohammad Al Zarouni, who has provided the largest donation in the Arab world for weddings, and who has previously supported a series of mass weddings among other initiatives, as well as his humanitarian work, which reflects a spirit of compassion and philanthropy, as well as the religious, moral, and humanitarian values of the UAE society. He expressed his congratulations to the brides and grooms, and he asked God to bless them and provide them with happiness and blessings in their married lives.

HE Saif Mohammed Al Midfa, CEO of Expo Centre Sharjah, was honoured at the ceremony by the Arab Family Organisation (AFO), in recognition of the centre’s role in hosting the first Arab mass wedding, and for the support and facilities it offered to the organization, which had a direct impact on the success of the mass wedding.  The mass wedding was also attended by His Highness Sheikh Saeed bin Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan; Sheikh Mohammed bin Humaid Al Qasimi, Director of the Statistics and Community Development Department; Dr. Sheikh Majid bin Saeed Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Emiri Diwan in Ajman; Jamal Obaid Al Bah, Chairman of the Arab Family Organisation; and businessman Abdul Rahim Al Zarouni; as well as a number of diplomats, and a group of artists.
