- Symposium seen as critical moment to address unique challenges faced by LGD and outline action plan for global long-term growth of technology-driven sector
- Industry leaders and governments to gather in Dubai as the UAE positions its credentials as global trade hub for technology and precious stones
Dubai, UAE: DMCC – the world’s flagship Free Zone and Government of Dubai Authority on commodities trade and enterprise – has announced it will host the inaugural Lab-Grown Diamond (LGD) Symposium in Dubai. Set to take place on 10 July 2023, the symposium is seen as a timely and world-first opportunity to benchmark this nascent technology-driven industry’s unique challenges and remove barriers to growth.
DMCC will convene global leaders in the lab-grown and technology space, including industry, retailers, financial institutions, governmental stakeholders, growers and manufacturers in a bid to drive consensus and actions for the long-term success of the sector.
In order to maximise value-add outcomes, the symposium will be structured to stimulate conversations around several core themes – namely financing and regulation, marketing, sustainability and reputation. Participants, rather than speakers, will set the pace and agenda of discussions which will ultimately aim to shape the future of industry.
Hosting the Lab-Grown Diamond Symposium in Dubai recognises the UAE’s status as one of the world’s leading trade hubs and a magnet for both technology such as lab-grown diamonds as well as physical commodities like precious stones.
Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, DMCC, said: “Since the arrival of farmed pearls from Japan in the 1930s, the UAE has recognised the potency, challenges and benefits of disruptive industries. Lab-grown represents a completely new and unique industry with its own set of opportunities, from jewellery to heat sinks and semiconductors. This symposium shows we are ahead of the curve in driving crucial industry conversation for lasting and positive outcomes not just in Dubai but at the global level.”
Given its mandate to attract, promote and enable trade through Dubai, DMCC has established a comprehensive set of facilities and services for members and industry professionals to trade with confidence. Dubai’s geographical location places it at the centre of the commodities and services space. The Lab-Grown Diamond Symposium will further contribute to the UAE’s position as a global trade hub and a world-leader within the technology and precious stones industry.
DMCC confirmed registrations will open soon and those interested to attend can register their interest here.
