After designing, building and operating the Gabal El Asfar 2A waste water treatment plant since 2005, Degrémont has won the tender launched by the CAPW for operating the facility and maintaining the equipment, for an additional five-year period, alongside Arab Co. and ICAT, its local partners.

This contract, which amounts to a total of €28 million for Degrémont, confirms the CAPW's confidence in the company's know-how as an operator, and in its expertise in the water treatment sector.

Rémi Lantier, Degrémont's Chief Executive Officer, made the following comments on this achievement: "We are very proud of the new operating contract awarded for the Gabal 2A waste water treatment plant. It rewards Degrémont teams' know-how as construction and operating contractors, and their ability to adapt to our customers' new requirements and to the challenges facing them."

The Gabal 2A waste water treatment plant has the capacity to treat 500,000 m3 per day. It offers a comprehensive carbon pollution process, and is capable of producing biogas from sewage sludge, which enables it to be 65% energy self-sufficient once the biogas has been turned into power.

As part of this contract, Degrémont will renovate all the digestors at the plant, together with the five gas generators, which have a capacity of 2.3 MW each.

Degrémont has been working in Egypt since 1948 and currently employs 345 people. 70% of the Greater Cairo Area's drinking water is currently produced by facilities built by Degrémont (Fostat, Mostorod, Amerya, Giza, etc.). Degrémont was awarded the Gabal El Asfar Optimisation contract (300,000 m3 per day) in 2007 and the extension of the East Alexandria waste water treatment plant (800,000 m3 per day) in 2008.
