Dubai, United Arab Emirates: St. George’s University’s (SGU) School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies, has announced that its accepting applications for its August 2023 intake. Prospective medical students from the MENA region can still apply ahead of the next academic year.

Being the largest source of physicians licensed in the US, according to FSMB physician licensure data, 2021—– SGU remains committed to addressing the global shortage of physicians by offering an international education and several clinical training opportunities in the US and UK. With a global shortfall of 10 million healthcare workers predicted for 2030 by the World Health Organization, providing the relevant education and training to aspirant medical students  is paramount.

Admitted students looking to start their academic careers on the True Blue campus in Grenada can choose from three intakes per year – January, April, August and September – with unique advantages for applicants of each cohort. Those accepted for August benefit from alignment with the global academic year and will be fully immersed in the medical school program following the completion of final exams.  In addition, since 2007, SGU and Northumbria University (NU) have collaborated to provide students with the opportunity to start their journey to becoming a doctor in the UK and start in September.

Through offering a quality, international education with the potential to move into high-demand medical specialty fields, SGU continues to provide new ways for aspiring medical professionals to receive the necessary training.

Commenting on SGU’s August intake, David Anthonisz, Executive Director of International Student Recruitment at St. George’s University, said: “Following the success of our January 2023 cohort application window, we’re excited to support students looking to join our August intake. St. George’s University continues to be an institution that prioritizes the betterment of healthcare education, which is a critical precursor to a successful medical workforce – and more important than ever with large-scale predictions of physician fallout. As we welcome new admissions for this year, we look forward to supporting their growth and, eventually, their graduation, into international medical career paths.”

St. George’s University is committed to preparing its students for successful medical careers and prides itself on the ability to do so through global experiences. The institution’s ongoing championship of individuals in the Middle East and North Africa who are pursuing a future in medicine is in line with its vision of increasing access to and diversity within the field.
