Global Collaborative Decision Making program to further enhance operational efficiency at Bahrain International Airport

Manama - In line with its commitment to continuously improve its business and governance performance, Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), the operators and managing body of Bahrain International Airport (BIA), in cooperation with International Air Transport Association (IATA), hosted a joint workshop focusing on a global aviation program aimed at enhancing collaborative efforts among strategic airport partners and ultimately improve efficiency across airport operations.

The Global Airport Collaborative Decision Making program (ACDM), is a concept aimed at improving Air Traffic Flow and Capacity Management at airports by reducing delays, facilitating the predictability of events and optimizing the utilization of available capacities and operational resources.

Commenting on this initiative, BAC's Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah explained that "the ACDM program was initiated in the US and grew out of an imperative to improve airport operations through better communication and relationship building among strategic airport partners. BIA's competitive advantage lies in its operational efficiency and the ACDM is an ideal tool to help enhance this strength. The ACDM has been successfully implemented across major airports in Europe and the United States and we look forward to sharing a similar success story at BIA".

The ACDM has been successfully adopted by many international airports and encourages the collaborative decision making between key members of the airport community, including airlines, airport operators, ground handlers, Civil Aviation representatives and air traffic control. This program enables the timely and accurate exchange of information between the ACDM partners, leading to increased efficiency in the planning, decision-making and implementation process.

According to Mohamed Thamir Al Kaabi, BAC's Chief Airport Operating Officer, "within an airport setting where time is of utmost importance, efficiency is paramount. By adopting a structured communication system across key airport partners, we can ensure common situational awareness and better decision making; this in turn will help us anticipate key areas of concern and develop preemptive solutions. Developed based on the cooperation with the main airport partners and sharing available data for operational processes, the system is set to improve the decision-making process and enhance our ability to find the ideal solutions for the flow of air traffic and improve the travel experience."

BAC is the authority responsible for enhancing BIA and increasing the airport's contribution to the local economy in line with Bahrain's Economic Vision.  In its operational role, BAC is responsible for elevating the airport's operations, infrastructure and services. This is set to improve BIA's capabilities and cater to the growing number of passengers as well as the changing demands of stakeholders.
