Dubai: The Department has been awarded by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Medical Sciences in the virtual Award ceremony held on 9th December, 2020 due to pandemic situation. The Award recognize outstanding achievements in research, education, and public service.

The Physical Awarding did not take place during December, 2020 because of the Pandemic regulations. The Award Trophy and the Certificate has been presented to the Department by Mr. Abdulla Bin Souqat, Executive Director of the Award and Dr. Ahmed Al Hashemi, Member of the Board of Trustees to Dr. Usama Al Bastaki, Head of the Department along with Dr Fahd Baslaib, CEO of Rashid Hospital, Dr Mansour Nadhari, Medical Director of Rashid Hospital and Mr Hamad Attar, Finance & Administration Director in a brief function at the MRI Centre in Rashid Hospital on 11th April, 2021.

While presenting the Award, Mr. Abdulla Bin Souqat, addressed to the gathering about the vision of Late Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, patron of the Award who has been very keen about the development of the community by supporting in Education, Health and Environment. To fulfill that vision, the 3 Awards have been established 22 years back on his advices. Mr. Abdulla was very emotional while narrating about Sheikh Hamdan and his concern about the community and the society. Mr. Abdulla added that the Award is not only for the UAE and the Region but also for the whole world so it is an International Award. He congratulated the head and the team members of the department on this great achievement.

Dr. Ahmed Al Hashemi, Member of the Board of Trustees presented the Certificate of Excellence to the head of the Department of Radiology, Dr. Usama and said that his department truly deserving this award and it has been selected and recommended by the Scientific Committee because the achievements of your department were very evident to consider. He added that Sheikh Hamdan always talked about the medical community which plays an important role by giving services to the public. He congratulated the department and said that the winning of the prize is an achievement but it will  an interest  in the minds of the people from other departments as an encouragement to become excellent in their services of their area of service.

While receiving the Award, Dr. Fahd Baslaib said to the members of the Department and       the gathered audience and to the officials of the Award that the winning is a really a motivation to all in the Hospital to improve the patients care and to give excellent services and to get the best output to the patients and this is our prime responsibility and he said he is very proud to be a part of the recipients for such a prestigious award in the name of our Late Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum  and congratulated the Department for their excellence.

Dr. Usama Al Bastaki, Head of the Department of Radiology made a warm welcome to everybody and conveyed his thanks and regards for selecting his department for the award. He said his department would not have been achieved this status without the support of his team members and their hard work and timely intervention in taking care of the patients. He conveyed the message from the CEO of the Hospital to all members of his department and to work hard to bring to the level of Centre of Excellence in the future.

The department is a vital contributor to the customer journey of acute stroke patients, trauma patients, cardiac patients and COVID 19 patients by providing medical imaging on time that saved lives, resources and time. The Radiology department has been working rigidly on service improvement and customer trust and happiness in both acute and chronic care settings. Being a vital contributor to the customer journey of acute stroke patients, the Door-to-Imaging time for acute stroke patients has been brought down to seven minutes average (2019) compared to international standard requirement of 15 minutes.  Door to neuro-intervention time brought to 80 minutes for the last three years against international standard of 3 hours. Furthermore, in collaboration with neurology department an AI (artificial intelligence) tool was introduced to aid the radiologists in identifying stroke areas. This has transformed the care of patients with acute stroke in the biggest stroke unit in Dubai and contributed to Rashid hospital stroke unit recognition as a Centre of excellence according to the German standards for the past 5 years. 

With the above contributions to healthcare diagnostic services and medical education highlight the extraordinary role played by the Radiology Department in Rashid Hospital which is being awarded by the Hamdan Award for Outstanding Clinical Department in the Public Sector in the United Arab Emirates for the term 2019-2020.
