One of the leading pipeline integrity summit in the region is underway at the Park Rotana in Abu Dhabi.
Fleming Gulf's 3rd Annual Global Pipeline Integrity Summit 2013 opened yesterday 27 May, with a pre-conference workshop that saw participants gain better knowledge of the latest technologies and advancements in pipeline management and inspection.
"International Non Destructive Testing (NDT)" by Marwan Basrawi, Regional Director of ASNT Region 19 was the keynote presentation. ASNT is the first and largest professional society dedicated to the advancement of nondestructive testing. Basrawi addressed the delegation on NDT in developing economies stating "NDT is a hard sell internationally, particularly in developing economies where there is so much more lack of liability and accountability" he further added "the most important investment in NDT is in human resources that lag in development complicating the international NDT issue further". Basrawi addressed how to adopt well organised trainings and certifications in NDT for it to be able to reach its potential internationally.
Post the opening keynote, the attendees at the conference participated at round table discussions lead by ADCO, ADNOC and Oman Oil Marketing Company on topics ranging from new technologies on ageing pipelines, international standards for pipeline management and the top ways to assess pipeline integrity respectively. Expanding on the topic of ageing pipelines and how to get better ROI was Chris Faulkner, CEO Breitling Oil & Gas. The delegation observed a case study by Ahmed Al-Majid of Qatar Petroleum on the 'Integrity of Gas Distribution Systems (GDS)- 30" ONSAGE Pipeline, 44 Km length '.
The second half is to expand on the issues faced with third party damage to pipelines. The summit participants are scheduled to discuss 'In-Line Inspection' on an interactive panel discussion. Also scheduled to speak are U.S. Rao, Vice President of Reliance Industries on 'Cross-border Pipeline Threats and Mitigation' and a case study on 'Management of Pipelines in High Consequence Areas (HCA)' by P.S. Balasubramanian of the Indian Oil Corp. The delegates will hear a regional case study by Alaa Alasady on the 'Application of Pipeline Integrity Management in Iraq' .
The final day of the summit will look into the broad spectrum of inspection and monitoring of pipelines and how to manage and maintain assets for reliable performance. Addressing the summit will be Mehdi Pirsiavash of the Iranian Gas Transmission Company, Abdel Khodier of Egyptian LNG, Mustafa Abdulla from Sui Southern Gas Company and Ahmed Mohammed Nossair of ADMA-OPCO. Ijaz Rao, Director of Asset Integrity at Applus Velosi will present a case study on 'RBI & Fitness for Service Assessment of Onshore Pipelines'. Panelists will be seen discussing on the the effects of corrosion and what are the top challenges with pipeline integrity management.
Supported by the Pigging Products and Services Association (PPSA) and Eternal Fire Centre for Oil Development and Buildup (EFCODB), the conference is sponsored by Fathom Solutions and Velosi Asset Integrity Ltd (VAIL). The summit explores the latest strategic and technical trends impacting pipeline operators on a global scale, with a special focus on security & technology at every level of Pipeline Integrity Management.
