Dubai - Al Ghurair City may be home to a range of international brands but a number of home-grown retail outlets offering everything that is traditional from daily attire to fashion accessories and perfumes, are also proving to be a major attraction among shoppers, especially Arab nationals from the UAE and across the Middle East.

Of the more than 200 world-class brands located at Al Ghurair City, over 40 stores sell Abayas and Shaylas, textiles with traditional designs, exquisite hand-crafted fashion accessories and exotic Arabic perfumes, underlining the mall's strong Arabian roots and highlighting the fact that traditional materials are now commonly used for modern stylish living. These stores have been enjoying excellent sales, and expect to register an increase during the Ramadan and the Eid period.

Mukta Sabharwal, Events and PR Coordinator, Al Ghurair City, said:  "Traditional wear and other products from this region have become a favourite of  our key audience - Arab families and youth -  who visit Al Ghurair City. That these stores are offering products that are as attractive, and of high quality as the outlets offering international brands, is ample testimony of the fact that Arabic themes and traditions have successfully merged with a modern lifestyle.  The presence of such outlets also enhances Al Ghurair City's image as a shopping destination that has a wide choice of brands for its loyal shoppers".

Leading stores at Al Ghurair City that offer an exciting range of Arabic merchandise like Abayas, Shaylas, textiles and Arabic perfumes include Ajmal Perfume Centre, Arabian Oud, Aroma, Abdulla Hussein Tahji, Afrah, Al Melaa, First Choice, Habayeb, Hanayen, King of Gaharu, Laurent Textiles, Louloua, Maraheb Boutique, Mashael, Mumtaz & Khunji, Oud Al Haramain, Palace of Oudh, Reeha Trading Est., Rasasi Perfumes, Sweet Lady, The Swan, and many more.

In addition to Arab customers from across the Middle East, the stores also attract tourists from Europe, North  America, Iran and Russia.

Sharique Khan, Rasasi's Manager, Retail Outlets, said: "Rasasi has over the years created a unique niche for itself, primarily because we understand what our customers want. As a leader in the oriental perfume sector, we have to strike a balance between both. Our traditional lines, such as Oudh, Dhan-Al Oudh and blended Oudh oils are core to the Arabian tradition. But we have pioneered Bukhoor in a modern packing, which depicts our adaptation to modern trends".

He said that as Ramadan was a special time in the Arab world, Rasasi took special care to ensure supplies of traditional products such as Attars and Oudhs were in abundance. Acknowledging that sales during Ramadan were high, Mr. Khan also disclosed that Rasasi would launch a premium Dhan-Al-Oudh product during this time.

Raja Nabeel, Branch Manager of The Swan, said the store was a favourite of Arab women who sought Abayas and Shailas that come with traditional designs and contemporary Arabic fashions.

"We have new collections three times a year. As it is a local attire, we design the Abaya and Shayla but we use the best threads, textiles and crystal from the finest brands from Japan, Europe and other countries," Mr. Nabeel said.

Not all products are locally produced. Walid Henady, Branch Manager of Laurent Textiles, said that his store imports material from Germany, France, Swaziland, Italy and India but they are still popular among Arab shoppers.

The first shopping mall to be opened in the Middle East, Al Ghurair City is today the premier quality family shopping destination, offering an array of exciting choices, features and facilities. The mall is a harmonious blend of enclosed and high-street shopping, exciting streetscapes, and provides the best of entertainment and food.

The Al Ghurair City experience has been culturally enhanced through its modern Arabic design and architecture reflecting the local heritage and traditions, while at the same time providing a modern setting that comes with comfort and convenience for shoppers.

Al Ghurair City balances Arabic motifs featuring teak and gold finishing together with a blend of bright colors and warm lighting. All retail outlets in Al Ghurair City feature wall-to-wall glass facades for maximum visibility of their merchandise for consumers.  The  Food Court at the mall is designed to integrate the theme of UAE's rich marine heritage featuring turtles, shells and foliage from the seabed.

A variety of merchandise ranging from successful home-grown brands to world-renowned brands, traditional wear to international fashion and lifestyle has made Al Ghurair City a favourite of shoppers, who visit the UAE from around the world.
