SuperStack 3 Lan Switches Are Latest 3Com First in the Region
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
3Com, a leading supplier of networking technology, has announced the release of the region’s first resilient stacking gigabit Ethernet switch family equipped with a 10—gigabit expansion slot. The switches, available in 48-port and 24-port versions, have been rolled out to address growing demand for gigabit-to-the-desktop capability for workgroup switching.
The SuperStack 3 Switch 3870, which is being marketed as an alternative to traditional 10/100 workgroup switches, boasts uplink capability to connect to 10-gigabit Ethernet core technology and Layer 3-aware hardware increase.
“The SuperStack 3 Switch 3870 with 10 gigabit expansion slot is the first of its kind to be available in the region,” said Wael Fakharany, general manager, 3Com Middle East. “By pricing it in a bracket more usually linked with standard Ethernet products, we aim to make the latest technology accessible to the widest possible market.”
“This latest product introduction confirms the SuperStack line as a fruitful source of innovation at the network edge,” he added. “Advances such as these place 3Com firmly in the top league of forward-looking vendors, and make us the natural choice for customers seeking sophisticated infrastructure designed to optimise their data communication capabilities.”
3Com Innovation Showcased in New Switch
Up to eight of the switches can be stacked, connected and managed, providing a single IP entity with 384 gigabit ports for greater management simplicity. Intra-switch data is transferred over the resilient 40-gbps stacking connection, augmented if required by cross-stack capabilities.
Aggressive pricing of the 3870 models is designed to help drive greater adoption of gigabit-at-the-edge desktop technology, which offers ten times better performance and more potential future-proofing than the 10/100 standard.
Other features include a 10-gigabit-ready module slot for future expansion and enterprise-level security features such as IEEE 802.1X network login, Secure Shell (SSH) secure management, and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL/HTTPS) encryption.
“The rollout of 3Com’s SuperStack 3 Switch 3870 models brings the highest-specification data transfer environment to businesses in the Middle East at an affordable price,” said Fakharany. “We are proud of our latest ground-breaking product release, and look forward to introducing more of our innovative solutions to the region in the future.”
