Being blindfolded doesn't mean this 9-year-old boy is not able to do the things that he used to do otherwise.

The prestidigitation that he has acquired at this age is making Surya Reji of Indian School Ghobra stand out for he has been catapulted to wider attention with his skill.

He has been solving Rubik's Cube blindfolded in less than a minute against his earlier 4-minutes deadline and where he is aiming is nowhere other than the Limca Book of World Records.

"He showed interest in a Rubik's cube one year ago. So we got him a 3x3 Rubik's cube and taught him through YouTube. And then picked it up very fast and showed more interest in the sport and he is ambitious to carve a niche in this," says his parents, Reji Prashanth, an alumnus of ISG and Pallavi Reji.

Surya was quick to learn the algorithms behind solving the Rubik’s Cube and also kept experimenting with different speedcubing methods and was able to solve 3x3 and his parents got him a 4x4 cube which he was learning. But unfortunately, it broke and he had to go back to 3x3 again. He was at ease with the 3x3 but wanted to do something different which ended him solving the Rubik's Cube blindfolded.

"He aims to break the Guinness record for solving Rubik’s cube (kids-10 years) which is currently held by Li Dongyi from China in 11.84 seconds. Currently, Surya solves it in 50 seconds. In his free time, he is teaching his 4-year-old sister. "

Although he was provided with all the materials and taught him initially, he finds at ease with learning by himself. He has been featured on vernacular dailies for his interest in dinosaurs when he was in Kindergarten. His remarkable memory was evident as he could identify and recollect the tough names of different species of dinosaurs.

"We would like to congratulate Surya Reji, for his remarkable talent and wish him the very best so that he develops his unique abilities and applies them creatively in the future," Papri Ghosh, Principal of the school said.
