Kick-starting the National Day celebrations on Tuesday senior Dubai Police officials cut the vanilla cake at the Dubai Al Wasl Club.
The cake was baked at a sweet factory in Jebel Ali, and assembled at the 7,000sq.ft. Dubai Police kitchen. Nazer Nandi, the chairman of PRO Association, said: "The cake was built to honour the officers of the Dubai Police, for their efforts to safeguard our city."
A total of 16 chefs, from across several bakeries in the UAE baked the cake, over a period of eight days. "About 105 volunteers worked together to make this event a success," he added. Individually baked cakes were transported from the sweet factory in Jebel Ali in 28 vans and two 80ft containers.
The longest UAE flag - measuring 500-metre - was another highlight of the celebration.
The event was held in the presence of Major-General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of the Dubai Police. It was also attended by directors of police departments and police stations, elite social figures and representatives from a number of various government departments, private institutions, schools and volunteers.
The celebrations began with military music and national anthem of the UAE, followed by recitation from the Holy Quran.
