The traffic and patrols department of the Ras Al Khaimah Police announced that the speed on Corniche Al Qawasim has been reduced from 60 to 50km/hr.

However, the radar flash has been set at 71km/hr, considering the 20km/hr speed buffer over speed limits, according to Col Ahmed Saeed Al Sam Al Naqbi, acting director of the traffic and patrols department, RAK Police.

"The move is meant to curb traffic violations, mainly speeding and reckless driving," he said.

All the radars on the arterial road have been reset in view of the reduced speed limit.

"The sophisticated mobile 'Sniper' radar shall also be used to nab callous drivers who pose a grave risk to road users' safety."

The traffic and patrols department has also decided to temporarily lift the ban on truck movement based on the condition of the roads in RAK.

"All heavy trucks are now allowed all day long after lifting the earlier ban between6amto 8.30am, and from1pm to 3pmin the afternoon."

Based on the condition of the roads, the temporary ban shall be extended or enforced again, he underlined.

"The RAK police are all set to reduce the casualties of road accidents against every 100,000 people."
