RIYADH – The Shoura (Consultative) Council on Tuesday approved a draft regulation for organizing Motor Vehicle Periodic Inspection (MVPI) during its 52nd ordinary session held here and presided over by the Deputy Chairman of the council Dr. Abdullah Bin Salim Al-Maatani, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The Shoura decision came after listening to the viewpoints of the security affairs committee and comments and views of Shoura members on the draft regulation during an earlier session.

The Shoura decision included continuing work with the MVPI regulation issued according to the Council of Ministers decision No. 169 dated 19/5/1431H until the transfer of the functions and jurisdictions to the Saudi Arabian Standards Organization, during a period not exceeding 180 days.

The MVPI draft regulation comprises 15 articles. It aims at ensuring proper organization of motor vehicle periodic inspection including inspection of heavy duty vehicles, like trailer trucks, in line with the specified technical requirements and specifications.

In a resolution passed on Monday, the council agreed to create a special committee to assess “the proposal to challenge the divorce system,” from members Prince Dr. Khalid Bin Abdullah Bin Mishari and Dr. Khaled Al-Aqee.

The council also agreed on a draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) for cooperation in the military use of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System between the Saudi Ministry of Defense and the Equipment Development Commission in China.

The members reached the decision after being briefed by the head of the security affairs committee, Maj. Gen. Ali Asiri.
