RIYADH — The Public Transport Authority (PTA) announced the start of implementing automatic surveillance of violations of buses operating in the specialized transport and educational transport sectors, effective from Wednesday, Feb. 1.

The authority has identified three violations that will be monitored automatically in the first phase.

These violations include operating buses or vehicles without obtaining an operating card or with an expired card or operating buses and vehicles for a period exceeding the approved operating age. The authority stressed that it will be announced later when any activities or violations that are added to the list of violations.

The new initiative is aimed at enhancing traffic safety, in addition to raising the percentage of buses’ compliance with the regulations and technical requirements set by the authority and thus contributing to raising the quality and efficiency of their services.

The authority stated that the new initiative is being implemented in cooperation with the advanced traffic safety project. This is in line with the direction of the PTA in organizing and preparing transport activities, and the transition to the digital transformation project, one of the strategic goals of the authority.
