London’s Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (Guy’s and St Thomas’) and Lexica Health and Life Sciences Consultancy (Lexica), established a long-term partnership with Elevate Private Equity B.V. (Elevate), a specialist platform focusing on healthcare investments in the Middle East and Africa.

The overarching aim of the strategic partnership is to provide clinical consultancy services, including healthcare planning, clinical governance and clinical audits, education and training services, expert opinions and patient referrals for future healthcare facilities being developed and operated in the Middle East and North Africa region by Elevate.

This will increase the quality and impact of healthcare facilities run by Elevate, as well as the overall health ecosystem in which they operate.
The British Embassy, in Cairo, hosted an event where the parties formalised the partnership with an official signing of a framework agreement, presided over by the Egyptian Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar’s Minister Assistant team.

This follows the signing of a letter of intent between the three parties in January 2023 at Arab Health, Dubai, supported by Mark Oakes, Head of Life Sciences (Exports) at the UK Department for Business and Trade.

A delegation of senior management from Guy’s and St Thomas’ and Lexica visited Cairo to sign the joint agreement with Elevate and commence the first stages of the partnership.

British Ambassador to Egypt Gareth Bayley said: “I am delighted that Guys and St Thomas’, one of the largest hospital trusts in the United Kingdom with an internationally renowned reputation, is partnering with Elevate. This agreement will enable parties to join forces in delivering positive improvements in healthcare services across the Middle East and Africa, including here in Egypt.”

Guy’s and St Thomas’ Managing Director of International and Specialised Services, David Shrimpton, said: “It is a privilege to partner with Elevate in supporting the development of the nation’s healthcare system and we look forward to a successful partnership between our two institutions. This is an exciting collaboration which builds on our existing relationships in the region, and we hope this can lead to further productive opportunities in the future so that we can continue to support the delivery of a world-class health service to the citizens of Egypt and beyond.”

Tarek Moharram, Group CEO of Elevate, also added: “We are thrilled to be able to translate and transfer world-class standards of care in the field of hospital design, governance and care protocols from one of the leading hospital Trusts in the UK to increase the quality and access of premium healthcare in our region.”

Lexica’s Managing Director, Tina Nolan, explains: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the teams to harness their expertise to build sustainable, high-quality healthcare systems in emerging countries, as well as offering the highest quality standards for training and education programs.”
